Meet Wordiez - a vocabulary app curated by you
Stop memorizing word lists someone else wrote. Turn the articles, docs and pages you already read into vocabulary you actually remember.
You already understand more words than you can use
You read comfortably. You follow conversations. But when you need a specific word, you reach for it and it isn’t there, so you walk around it with three simpler ones instead. Then someone else says the word you wanted and you recognize it instantly.
That gap has a name: your passive vocabulary is far bigger than your active one. Closing it doesn’t take more study time. It takes practicing the right words, and those are the ones you personally keep running into.
Your reading is already your curriculum
Every language app hands you a fixed syllabus: the same words, in the same order, for everyone. Most of them you’ll never use, and none of them connect to your life.
Wordiez flips that. You collect the words you stumble on, inside the things you actually chose to read. They arrive with context already attached, which is exactly what makes vocabulary stick. Your dictionary ends up looking like nobody else’s, because nobody else read what you read.
Three steps, and that’s the whole app
- Translate in place. Hit an unknown word while browsing and look it up right there with the browser extension, or in the iOS app. Translation, examples and context, without leaving the page.
- Save what’s worth saving. Keep the words that matter in your personal dictionary, together with translations, examples and your own notes.
- Practice on your schedule. Open a quiz built entirely from your own words, whenever you want.
What’s inside
Spaced repetition that schedules itself. Quizzes run on SM-2, the algorithm from the SuperMemo family that Anki is built on. It shows you each word right before you’d forget it: the ones you know come back rarely, the ones you struggle with keep returning until they stick. All the scheduling power of Anki, none of the deck building.
You’ll never open an empty quiz. If nothing is due today, Wordiez tops the session up with older words so you can always practice. Those bonus answers can only pull a review closer, never push it further out, so extra practice never damages your real schedule.
Streaks that count real work 🔥 Translate a word or take a quiz and your day counts. Wordiez tracks your current and longest streak, runs on your local day rather than a server timezone, and warns you before a streak is about to break.
Translations made for learning, not just decoding. Core translations come from DeepL, then get enriched with examples, alternative meanings and richer context. You see how the word is actually used, not just what it maps to.
Hear every word. Tap the speaker on any entry for pronunciation. It plays even with your phone on silent.
A dictionary you can manage. Search everything you’ve saved, and delete what you’ve outgrown.
15 languages. English, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French, Slovak, Czech, Polish, Hungarian, Dutch, Swedish, Danish, Finnish and Norwegian.
Start in seconds, no account required. Try it as a guest and sign in with Google or Apple whenever you’re ready. Everything you collected comes with you.
Spotted a bad translation? Report it in one tap.
